Advanced Technology

Using some of the most advanced equipment available, our plastic surgeon provides Milwaukee-area patients with consistently good results. Mirror imaging, laser, and endoscopic technology make undergoing and recovering from many cosmetic procedures quicker and more comfortable than ever before. For breast reconstruction patients, Dr. Whitfield uses several specialized technologies.

Mirror Imaging Technology

Mirror imaging technology uses the patient’s own image to illustrate the potential results he or she may expect after a cosmetic procedure. This allows patients to establish reasonable treatment goals, and it helps Dr. Whitfield to meet those goals. Dr. Whitfield uses mirror imaging for rhinoplasty consultations.

Erbium Laser Technology

Dr. Whitfield uses sophisticated erbium laser technology to perform laser skin resurfacing treatments, which can improve the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, sun damage, and uneven pigmentation. The erbium laser vaporizes the damaged top layer of skin, exposing the fresh underlying layer. Laser treatment typically causes less skin irritation than traditional skin treatment techniques, which shortens the recovery period.

Endoscopic Procedures

Dr. Whitfield performs several procedures endoscopically: endoscopic mid-face lift, endoscopic brow lift, and endoscopic breast augmentation. Endoscopy is a minimally invasive technique in which a thin tube with a light and camera attached is inserted into a tiny incision near the area to be treated. The camera projects images of the internal area onto a screen. Endoscopy is ideal for many cosmetic procedures, since it results in minimal scarring and allows for great precision during surgery.

Advanced Technology for Breast Reconstruction Patients

For patients undergoing DIEP flap breast reconstruction, Dr. Whitfield performs a CT scan to identify the blood vessels that will be used for the tissue transfer. Dr. Whitfield uses the SPY Imaging System to evaluate the blood flow in the newly transferred tissue for the breast reconstruction. After surgery, he uses ViOptix technology to monitor the newly transferred tissue to identify blood vessel problems before they become apparent to the trained eye. DIEP flap breast reconstruction patients (and also tummy tuck patients) have benefited from the use of pain pumps. These devices are filled with local anesthesia which is released in small amounts into the surgical site to decrease pain, over a period of 24 to 48 hours. Dr. Whitfield also uses the rapid recovery system.
