Robert Whitfield, MD, FACS Department of Plastic Surgery 8700 Watertown Plank Road Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53226 Ph: 866-721-4575
In addition to performing rhinoplasty surgery and face lift, Dr. Robert Whitfield performs a variety of other procedures, like eyelid surgery, to enhance the features of his patients in Milwaukee, Madison, and the neighboring communities. Dr. Whitfield uses the latest surgical techniques and technologies, as well as extraordinary precision and his artistic eye, to enhance the eyes, brows, neck, cheeks, chin, and lips.
The eyes are among the most distinguishing features of the face. Unfortunately, aging and stress can cause drooping, sagging, or bags around the upper or lower eyelids. But due to the talent of cosmetic surgeons like Dr. Whitfield, the effects of aging can be reversed through eyelid surgery. At his practice serving Milwaukee, Madison, and nearby areas, Dr. Whitfield performs upper and lower eyelid surgery to eliminate excess skin and fat that contribute to an aged, tired appearance.
Eyelid surgery, otherwise known as blepharoplasty, is a simple procedure; the patient experiences only minor, if any, discomfort after the surgery, and the recovery period is short. The patient is put under a general anesthesia while Dr. Whitfield makes incisions above or below the eyelids (depending on the patient's needs). He extracts excess tissue, fat, and skin, and then sutures the incisions closed. The patient rests the day after surgery and, after about a week, returns to Dr. Whitfield's office to have his or her stitches removed.
At his practice conveniently located near Milwaukee, Dr. Whitfield can combine blepharoplasty with another procedure, such as a rhinoplasty, cheek lift, or lip augmentation, for a more comprehensive cosmetic makeover.
The natural process of aging can cause creasing, wrinkles, or furrowing around the brow and forehead area. These lines can make a person look stressed, aged, or even upset. Luckily, Dr. Whitfield has the tools and skills to eliminate wrinkles, smooth creases, and fill in furrows, essentially taking years off the face. At his Milwaukee practice, Dr. Whitfield performs each brow lift endoscopically, which results in smaller incisions, less scarring, and a shorter recovery time than are possible in a traditional brow lift.
During the endoscopic brow lift, Dr. Whitfield will make a few small incisions around the hairline and insert an endoscope, a small probe with a camera attached. Using the camera, Dr. Whitfield can watch his work on a monitor in the operating room, ensuring exact, precise movements. Using the endoscope and other surgical tools, the doctor removes excess muscle tissue to smooth the area and tighten the skin around the brow line to produce a lifted, but still completely natural, appearance. Dr. Whitfield will then close the incisions and suture them shut.
The recovery from a brow lift, specifically an endoscopic procedure, is short and practically painless. The patient may experience some numbness and swelling, and Dr. Whitfield can provide prescriptions for pain medication if needed. The stitches are usually removed one to two weeks after surgery.
Elements like aging, sun exposure, and smoking can cause the skin and fatty tissue of a once-slender neck to droop and sag. Dr. Whitfield makes the incisions for the surgery behind the patient's ears, removes excess fat and skin, and tightens the muscles in the neck. In addition to sculpting a more graceful neck, the surgery can reduce a double chin, correct a receded chin, and create a more visually appealing jaw line.
A neck lift is commonly performed in combination with a face lift or eyelid surgery at Dr. Whitfield's Milwaukee practice, also serving Madison. Contact our cosmetic surgery practice for more information on these procedures or to schedule a consultation.
A cheek lift can produce results similar to a face lift, without stretching the skin. A cheek lift pulls fat that has caused the face to sag upward and secures it into place on the cheek bones. The procedure gives the cheek bones a contoured appearance, and adds fullness to the cheeks. The procedure involves two incisions – one in the mouth, and the other above the hairline. Through these incisions, Dr. Whitfield loosens the skin in the cheeks to separate it from the fatty tissue and muscles in the cheek; he then repositions the fatty tissue higher onto the cheekbones. After attaching the skin back to the fatty tissue, he closes up the incisions with stitches. The recovery period is relatively painless and short. The patient may feel swelling or tightness in his or her cheeks, but the sensation usually disappears after a few days. If you are interested in a cheek lift as an alternative to a face lift, contact the plastic surgery practice of Dr. Robert Whitfield.
Over time, cheeks can lose some of the fat that is associated with a healthy, youthful appearance. A cheek augmentation can add contour and volume, giving the entire face a well-defined shape and balance. To add structure and gentle contouring, Dr. Whitfield uses cheek implants of varying materials and sizes to match each patient's bone structure and desired look. During a cheek augmentation procedure, Dr. Whitfield places the implants through incisions in the mouth, so they are not visible. A cheek implant surgery can be combined with a chin augmentation surgery, or even an eyelid surgery at Dr. Whitfield's Milwaukee and Madison-area practice to improve several facial features at once.
A chin augmentation can serve several purposes – it can add structure to the patient's profile through the use of an implant, or it can be reduced for a slimmer and more contoured look. In the latter option, Dr. Whitfield will separate the bone at the tip of the chin, reshape it to the desired size and proportion, and then reattach it to the rest of the chin using wires and plates.
An implant can drastically add shape to the face and create a stronger profile. During an implant procedure, Dr. Whitfield will insert an implant (usually composed of silicone) under the skin and attach it to the rest of the chin bone. He may shape or contour it to balance it out with the rest of the facial features. Dr. Whitfield can also combine chin augmentation surgery with a rhinoplasty, brow lift, or eyelid surgery for his Milwaukee and Madison-area patients, to enhance several features of their features in the same day.
Dr. Whitfield uses several methods to plump lips and create a fuller mouth. One option is to use an injectable filler such as Restylane® to fill in the lips. The procedure involves a few quick injections and is very effective, in most cases. Another option is to use lip implants to add fullness. There are several types of implants that Dr. Whitfield can place in the lips; he can also size and customize the implant in order to best meet the patient's request.
A natural alternative to fillers is fat transfer. Dr. Whitfield can liposuction fat from another area of the patient's body, and then fill in the lips using this fat. Since it is from the patient's own body, it is less likely than other fillers to be rejected or cause an allergic reaction when inserted into the lips.
In the United States there are currently 21 million females and 7 million males who suffer from migraines. Many of these patients have headaches that cause them to miss time from work, create problems for them emotionally, and are not treated effectively with the expensive medicines they are prescribed. Through the treatment of trigger points with BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dr. Whitfield can determine whether or not you are a candidate for the Surgical Treatment of Migraines.
